Outreach and Education

Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper works to develop, produce, publish, distribute, and create educational experiences and resources about conservation and management of the lagoon, the watershed, surrounding rivers and wetlands and its resources. These are deployed and distributed at live events (meetings, dialogues, workshops, symposiums) as well as to schools and communities. Live events are planned regularly targeting maximum number of people per session at the community level. The evets explore the past, present, and future of the watershed and waterways specific to the communities, with the aim of producing a strategic plan for their restoration, protection, maintenance, and sustainability for future generations.

Patrol and Monitoring

Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper embarks on regular waterway patrol, as well as foot and vehicle patrol of our Watershed. During these Patrols, we Conduct Water Quality tests, while also observing and documenting activities on the land surrounding the lagoon and interacting with the watershed residents to learn about their local water quality protection practices, systems, activities, and structures that are considered sustainable. We also learn how the government and other stakeholders have contributed or can contribute to watershed Management. We collect evidence of human impact on the watershed and suggest ways to protect and improve its health to the communities and relevant authorities.

Communication and Advocacy

Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper's key strategy is to foster Community ownership and participation towards greater adoption of sustainable land and water management practices by local people in their watershed by extensive communications and outreach. This is where Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper focuses its advocacy work, to ensure that communities retain their rights to clean and safe water. This Website, teaching aids, videos, posters, web-based information, mobile applications, and online interactive activities making use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and all existing and future communication technologies, to communicate information for watershed protection are the tools we use.
